Covid-19 Update

Dear Friends,

We hope you are all well and staying safe during this unprecedented time in the history of our nation and world. At a board meeting held in August, the Board of Directors made the very difficult, but inevitable decision to cancel SMFC’s holiday season. We have been closely following CDC, Federal, State and Local updates and guidelines leading up to this decision but there are still too many risks to rehearsing and public performances until a cure or vaccine can be found for COVID-19. Please know that this decision was not made lightly and many alternate options were considered. We feel that compromising the health and well-being of our members and audience, as well as the quality and scope of our mission, is not in the best interest of the SMFC at this time. We will be in a better position to fully present our unique brand of choral performance when we can fully engage in rehearsing and concertizing.

If it is safe to do so, our plan is to return to a normal rehearsal schedule in January 2021 and present “Hello Broadway” in May 2021 and “Holiday Treat” in December 2021. The holiday concert will highlight our two very special commissioned arrangements: “Marshmallow World with Candy Man” arranged by Mark Hayes and “Good King Wenceslaus” arranged by Camp Kirkland. These two composers have added significantly to the sacred and secular choral catalogs of numerous publishers for many years and encapsulate the style of composition that SMFC does best. We could not be more proud to have worked with these world-renowned arrangers, but unfortunately we will have to wait until next December to perform the wonderful arrangements they have written for us.

Hello Broadway
The SMFC began with a simple idea; uniting people who share two common interests - a love for music and a desire to perform in a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. For 27 years, SMFC has been a cultural staple in the area that brings a top-notch level of entertainment to the region including live orchestral musicians and relevant guest performers. We invite new singers to share this journey with us as we enter our 28th year. Our Spring 2021 concert season is titled “Hello Broadway” and will reintroduce singers and audience members to classic Broadway fare from such shows as A Chorus Line, State Fair, West Side Story, Chicago, Jersey Boys, Hello Dolly and more and will include tunes such as “The Impossible Dream”, “Luck Be a Lady”, “Memory”, “Seasons of Love” and “Sabbath Prayer”. SMFC Bells, the newest addition to the SMFC franchise, will perform “What I Did for Love” and “Do Re Me” on handbells. A 30-piece orchestra will accompany this concert of Broadway showstoppers. New singers are invited to attend our next tentatively scheduled open rehearsals on Monday, January 4 and 11, 2021 to sing with us and learn more about becoming a member. A brief, informal audition will take place following each of these rehearsals. Weekly rehearsals are held each Monday, 7pm to 9pm, at First Congregational (Stone) Church, 785 South Main Street, Raynham.
